Dive into Filecoin Foundation's 2025 Vision and Strategy
The Upload V50

What’s Ahead in 2025
Filecoin Foundation entered 2025 with a clear mission: to make Filecoin work seamlessly and find product-market fit. Our vision remains steadfast –– to build a world where Filecoin and decentralized technologies safeguard humanity's most critical information.
To achieve this objective of making Filecoin work seamlessly and finding product-market fit, Filecoin Foundation outlined seven strategic priorities that will be our focus for 2025. You can read more about them on our blog.
We're looking forward to working alongside the entire Filecoin community in 2025 to advance Filecoin and build a decentralized, efficient, and robust foundation for the future of the web. Keep reading for more network updates on the horizon.
Fast Finality in Filecoin
Fast Finality in Filecoin (F3) represents one of the network’s biggest storage-retrieval lifecycle improvements, speeding up finality on the network by 450X and making the future of Filecoin fast, secure, and accessible to a wider range of applications than ever before. F3 marks a significant improvement in reducing finality latency and enhancing the usability of the Filecoin network, particularly for applications that demand quick and reliable finality.
Proof of Data Possession
Proof of Data Possession (PDP) introduces a new proof primitive to the Filecoin network designed for what's known as hot data, or data that requires fast and frequent retrieval. PDP expands Filecoin's capabilities by improving data retrievability, reducing friction for businesses entering the ecosystem, and opening the door for new storage providers focused on hot storage and fast retrievals.
Filecoin Web Services
Filecoin Web Services (FWS) is a concept in development designed to expand Filecoin’s capabilities beyond Proof of Replication to include new services like retrieval guarantees, compute over data, and short-term deals. First proposed by FilOz at FIL Dev Summit 4, the FWS platform aims to evolve Filecoin’s decentralized cloud services by providing a framework for deploying composable cloud services and allowing new protocols to bootstrap into a shared marketplace of diverse offerings.
As the network grows more sophisticated, the economy has evolved to scale with its expanding possibilities. FWS could help create a cohesive marketplace for storage, compute, bandwidth, and other services, establishing Filecoin as a leading hub in the decentralized web and broader distribution layer for decentralized services.
Development of the FWS marketplace will begin following the expected launch of PDP.
Network Upgrades
In 2025, the Filecoin network is poised for three network upgrades to enhance functionality. Key improvements like F3 and FWS are expected to arrive to mainnet in 2025, driving storage adoption and bringing DePIN, compute, storage, and AI networks to Filecoin.
